Overview
SEKRI’s partners include the national enterprise that administers the AbilityOne Program, prime contractors, public safety suppliers, and commercial brands that need reliable American manufacturing at volume. Some of these relationships span decades. Together they fund the employment mission at the center of everything we make.
Federal Program
AbilityOne® Program
Congress created the AbilityOne Program through the Javits-Wagner-O’Day Act to give people who are blind or have significant disabilities access to employment through federal contracting. It requires that at least 75 percent of direct labor on an AbilityOne contract is performed by individuals with significant disabilities. SEKRI has participated since 1984, when the program was known as JWOD. The Program provides:
- Access to federal procurement opportunities
- Competitive employment backed by federal statute
- Oversight by the U.S. AbilityOne Commission®, administered through SourceAmerica® and National Industries for the Blind

Our Partners
SourceAmerica®
SourceAmerica is one of two national nonprofits authorized by the U.S. AbilityOne Commission to administer the AbilityOne Program. It connects SEKRI with federal and commercial contracting opportunities and supports workforce development, product innovation, and process improvement. As an authorized Manufacturing & Development (M&D) producer, SEKRI collaborates with SourceAmerica to:
- Develop and refine product lines
- Implement engineering improvements
- Maintain compliance with federal standards
